DENVER, November 8, 2023 - Denver Families Action, a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering public school families, educators, and community members in Denver, is proud that Kimberlee Sia, Marlene De La Rosa, and John Youngquist have won their races for the Denver Public Schools’ (DPS) Board of Education. These victories are a clear affirmation of the community’s desire for experienced, qualified leadership to get DPS back on the right track for students, teachers, and families.

For far too long, Denver education has been dominated by the politics of division – politics that turn public school communities against one another. What we see in this election is the community rejecting that approach by supporting candidates who are not tied to a particular ideology, but instead to what is best for students, families, and teachers,” said Clarence Burton, Jr., CEO of Denver Families Action.

Denver Families Action is incredibly proud of all the hard work our entire team poured into this election cycle but wants to give a special acknowledgement to our field staff. This group of dedicated organizers – made up mostly of DPS families, teachers, and graduates – knocked on tens of thousands of doors and made thousands of phone calls to learn what education issues voters care about most deeply and share a unifying vision of a public education system that is responsive to the unique needs of every child in Denver. We know that these conversations at the grassroots level inspired many voters to opt for change in this election.

Denver Families Action looks forward to working in partnership with Marlene, Kimberlee, and John, and their fellow members on the DPS Board of Education, to work towards a bright future where every student across Denver, regardless of their background, has access to  high quality public education options that meet their individual needs.
